I don’t want to go to school today
But it’s not because of the mean girls or what they say
It’s ‘cause on TV last night there were kids my age
You think you live in a bubble until it breaks

They had to use their desks as shields
Losing a friend is something time won’t heal
And the people supposed to protect us have turned away
Soon there won’t be anyone left to fix their mistakes
Think back to your parent’s face
Telling you you’re gonna be late
As you brace for the sound you’ve only heard on the news
Hopin’ the bullet won’t find you

You huddle in the dark and silently wait
Like a lock and a door can keep out the hate
So I don’t wanna go to school because I haven't found a hiding place

Some kids in my class like to joke around
Sayin’ they’d tackle the man with the gun and take him down
But no one will be laughing anymore
On the day that there’s blood painted on the classroom door

Think back to your parent’s face

The evidence is hidden but the memories remain
