Loving this. All of us mourning the passing of Edward need this right now. Btw I've seen ZPZ twice and have a ticket waiting. Those shows also mean a lot to me. One of the shows I attended was the OSFA show and it was incredible. I never got to see Frank live so it's great to get to experience this music live and performed at such a high level.
Many of us listening to these great perspectives only knew him in written interview articles or brief videos and albums of course. It's great to hear stories from you who actually knew him when you were young. I remember reading about 5150 when I was young and wondering what it was like as some magical place. Dweezil, do you think 5150 would ever be opened up to the public in any way in the future?
Paul hit on something revelatory— Eddie’s lead playing and Dave’s singing are two sides of the same coin. A lot of the same inflections and phrasing. Tough to say who influenced who, but it dawned on me: “That’s why they sound perfect together!”
So many memories as a kid. I was 6 years old when I first heard VH1 in 1981. I have been a fan and playing guitar ever since. At that age if it wasn't Van Halen then it just wasn't good enough.
Thanks so much Dweezil! I have my own first time hearing Ed story, like so many did, but I had not thought a lot of it in the last decade. I was surprised to feel so sad that Ed was gone and having the music and his manner come flooding back. I listened to the albums thousands of times and I realized how much he meant to me and everyone else. This series is really special, thanks for doing it it means a lot to all of Ed’s fans, who are fans of your work too!
This is such a treat. I am a year younger than you and started playing at age 12 and soon fantasized about Ed coming over to my house and giving me lessons as soon as I discovered what tapping was:) The first VH song part ever learned to play was the intro to “take your whiskey” home. Can’t wait for the WACF episode! Keep up the amazing work Dweezil! You are brightening up so many EVH fans days at a time when we all really need it.
The Paul Gilbert talk about the 2nd Van Halen album took interviews to an entirely new level with Paul killing it throughout with his brilliant spot on Eddie riffs from every song on the album as examples while reminiscing. So stunningly good.
Love the VH podcasts! I think the tune Paul was trying to remember is Shining Star (EW&F...bass line is very much like vocal melody for Beautiful Girls)
Hello! I have been purchasing these episodes one by one. The first Steve Vai episode downloaded as an MP3, the Paul Gilbert as a Flac, & The Second Steve Vai episode wont stream for me. It Downloaded as a file called Custody Exchange Live that is just silence. Loving the podcast & new site so farThanks! Hope all is well!
On an unrelated note, if you don't mind me asking, why did you decide to sell your 'Shamer' Guitars by GMW? By all accounts, they were probably superior to the ones they were based off of. That being said, if you have one left, I wouldn't mind buying one :). I spoke with Lee Garver today and he has ceased all production :( .
That was about 20 + years ago and I no longer have those guitars. They were really nice but I wasn't playing them that much so I decided it would be best if other people enjoyed them.
I used to like Paul Gilbert a lot before hearing this pod cast but now I LOVE him. What a complete badass guitar player... and he seems really cool too.
Dweezil, any chance you’ve got video of these podcasts?
The episodes stream as MP3. For download they are supposed to be FLAC. If you downloaded the file and it isn't in FLAC format then something needs to be investigated on our end. I will look into it. I hope you're enjoying the episodes!

I love how Paul just knows every lick and solo from the entire album
Are the Running with the Dweezil episodes only audio or are there videos associated with them as well?
Hi Shane,
The episodes are audio only at this point. For the episode about recreating the "Brown Sound," we are considering creating video content.
So many memories as a kid. I was 6 years old when I first heard VH1 in 1981. I have been a fan and playing guitar ever since. At that age if it wasn't Van Halen then it just wasn't good enough.
Hi Leonard,
I think a lot of people felt like that, especially at that time! Fair Warning!!!
Thanks so much Dweezil! I have my own first time hearing Ed story, like so many did, but I had not thought a lot of it in the last decade. Thanks so much Jason! I'm glad you're enjoying the series.
Man! You and Blues are having a blast. So fun. I’m really loving these.
We sure did have a good time! Glad you're enjoying it too!
“I’ve seen some people that’s looking for a moon beam”. Sure why not.
I didn’t stop smiling and laughing listening to Dweezil and Paul.
Runnin’ with the Dweezil is simply fantastic.
It also helps me to deal with the loss of King Edward.
Dweezil I can’t thank you enough for this!!
Thanks, Jurre,
I'm happy to hear that you're enjoying the series! There's so much more coming your way.

Hi Joseph,
Thanks for the kind words. I'm excited for you to hear the WACF episode(s). Blues Saraceno tells some great stories and it's a lot of fun.
The Paul Gilbert talk about the 2nd Van Halen album took interviews to an entirely new level with Paul killing it throughout with his brilliant spot on Eddie riffs from every song on the album as examples while reminiscing. So stunningly good.
Thanks Myles! Glad you enjoyed it!

Hi Fab,
Glad you're enjoying the podcasts! There's no video at this time. There may be some videos included in some future episodes.
FWI; the Paul Gilbert episode is for some reason a FLAC format as opposed to MP3. Not sure what that is?
Hi Kurt,
The episodes stream as MP3. For download they are supposed to be FLAC. If you downloaded the file and it isn't in FLAC format then something needs to be investigated on our end. I will look into it. I hope you're enjoying the episodes!
