September 4, 1978, Cape Cod Coliseum. Black Sabbath. $7.50 in advance, $8.50 day of the show. I'm on the rail in front of the stage. An "unbilled" opening act is on. Some dude with no shirt, hairy chest, is running around like a nut. The guitar player has electrical tape wrapped around his guitar. We have no clue who it is. Sorry folks, it was 1978 on the east coast.

Hah!

The "funky disco bass line" that Paul's reminded of for Beautiful Girls is actually the vocal break in Black Water, by the Doobie Bros (another Ted Templeman production!) Great episode - and unexpected!

Hi Brian,

Thanks for chiming in! Hope you enjoy the series!

He passes it off quickly, but Steve V saying he transcribed Eruption without actually playing it - is another jaw-dropper. I know very few people on the planet that are capable of such things even today. Whoa...

Hi Dweezil,

Thank you for doing this. However, tbh Frank's music brought me here, as I learned about his music through your work with ZPZ growing up.

I discovered Van Halen prior to discovering Frank and although VH will always have a special place, Frank's work and his words have truly infected me with common sense and good taste in music. I just wanted to let you know, thank you.
