Hello Friends,

In the spirit of the holiday season and my dad’s 80th birthday, I’ve decided to share some speaker IRs with all of my Fractal Audio guitar playing friends! The speaker cab IRs come with a unique history. The 4x12 Brit FZ - a Red fabric covered 1970s Marshall cab with 4 JBL D120 F speakers. These cabinets were part of my dad's guitar rig called "Ma Bell" in the 70's.

4x12 VSB FZ - a Red fabric covered 1970s Vox Super Beatle with 4 JBL D120 F speakers.
The mics used to create the IRs were a vintage white Sennheiser 421, a Neuman U67 formerly owned by Freddie Mercury, and an AKG C12 formerly owned by Neil Young.
The mics were processed using the 1968 "Rolling Stones Mobile Recording Studio", famously used to record albums including Led Zeppelin III, IV, Houses of the Holy, and Physical Graffiti, as well as Machine Head by Deep Purple, Sticky Fingers by the Rolling Stones, Who's Next by The Who, and many others.
The cabs were captured by Dweezil Zappa and Matt Picone at EMEAPP outside of Philadelphia. They have been tuned for humbucker guitars but also work well for single coil. All equipment in this session was used courtesy of EMEAPP (https://emeapp.org)

If you like these FREE ultra-rare speaker IRs that come with a considerable pedigree please consider becoming Silver Subscriber as well. In the future, I will be creating an entire speaker cab IR collection paired with custom made Fractal Audio presets. It will be part of an ongoing library with different purchase options.

Be sure to download your free cab IRs for Christmas and anything else you fancy on the site.

Enjoy the IRs and happy holidays to you and your families! Best, DZ

Hey Dweezil - thanks for the IR’s!  Do you have any EVH IR’s that you are able to share and/or available to purchase?

    Dweezil

    Hi Joey,

I haven't got any EVH style IRs yet. I will be making some this year though. I have a cabinet that is a close match to the cab used on the 1st VH album. When I finally get the time I'll do some proper IRs for that cab.

    @Dweezil

Would you be so kind and post the IRs in "Wav" format as well for us non-Fractal mortals?

    Dweezil

I'm not sure I have access to them in wav files. If I am able to, I will. I plan to create speaker IR packages in the future and I plan to make them useful in various formats.

Dang, wont work with my Kemper. Maybe soon?

    Dweezil

Not sure if I'll be able to offer those as Kemper files. If I can I will.

    Best, DZ

To download - click the $0.00 add to cart icon. It will take you to the download page. These IRs are created in the sysex file format. They work in the Fractal Audio Axe Effects. I do not know if they will work in other units such as the Helix or Kemper. Sorry if they don't!

Gang - if they are in .syx format, they will likely only work on Fractal units, not others unfortunately. Not sure if anyone out there has created a conversion tool to convert from Fractal .syx to .wav yet...

Hi. Are these IRs specific to Fractal or will they work with the Helix as well?  Thanks!

They are indeed specific to AxeFxIII, as a fellow Helix user I searched for AxeFX SYX IR to WAV IR conversion tools, some exist but when they work, they only do for older Fractal models IRs, could not convert the ones that Dweezil shared to regular ones. I would love to check those IRs out on my Helix too. ;)
